Technical requirements for tanks compliant with regulations
Reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance are essential factors when choosing a tank for storing fuels, water, or chemicals. A non-certified product can pose environmental risks, lead to fines, and create operational issues. For this reason, it is crucial to rely on specialized manufacturers who can provide solutions that comply with current regulations while ensuring quality and durability over time.
Di Camillo Serbatoi, with over 60 years of experience, manufactures CE-certified tanks, custom-designed and equipped with all legally required certifications. Thanks to our expertise, we support companies in selecting the most suitable tank, considering all technical requirements mandated by regulations.
Materials and Design
Tanks must be constructed with corrosion-resistant materials that provide complete insulation from stored substances. Some materials are more suitable than others for containing specific liquids. For example:
- Polyethylene is ideal for corrosive liquids such as acids or aggressive chemicals, as well as for storing water.
- Stainless steel is often used for potable water, food-related substances, or materials requiring a high level of hygiene and safety.
- Galvanized steel is commonly used for fuels or oils due to its resistance to atmospheric corrosion.
Protection Systems and Safety Devices
Depending on the type of tank (underground or above-ground) and the stored liquids (especially diesel fuel tanks), a series of additional requirements must be met to ensure environmental and operator safety.
- Underground diesel tanks must have a double wall to prevent leaks and contamination.
- Above-ground tanks can be single-walled, provided they are installed inside containment basins with a capacity of at least 110% of the tank’s volume and equipped with a proper high vent.
Additional safety devices include:
- Overfill prevention systems to avoid accidental spills.
- Leak detection sensors and automatic alarms to signal any anomalies.
Tanks and cisterns for storing water, fuels, and other potentially hazardous and polluting liquids must comply with specific laws and regulations. The best solution for companies is to rely on expert manufacturers like Di Camillo.
