    DATA SHEET AND MANUAL OF USE AND MAINTENANCE OF IRRIGATION STATIONS (HABITA)

    Operation

    Di Camillo Serbatoi has designed a line of specific products to allow simple and efficient recovery and reuse of rainwater. These systems allow the accumulated rainwater to be reused for so-called “less noble” purposes such as: filling toilet cisterns, watering gardens, washing cars, etc… The rainwater coming from the roofs (or other uncovered surfaces) is introduced, after passing in a recommended filtering system (leaf filter well), in the storage tank through the inlet pipe. Once full, the excess water is conveyed to the final drain via the overflow. Inside the tank there is a pressurized submersible electric pump equipped with a level control probe which, thanks to a control unit and a 2-way solenoid valve, allows the replenishment of water from the aqueduct directly into the tank. Replenishment occurs via the solenoid valve which allows entry through the rupture kit (not included in the supply) so that drinking water does not come into contact with rainwater. The opening of the solenoid valve is controlled by the minimum level probe (adjustable) which controls the level of drinking water to be introduced into the storage.

    The pump and the solenoid valve are controlled by a pressure flow switch with automatic reset which manages the start/stop of the pump according to the users’ request and the opening/closing of the solenoid valve according to the presence or absence of water in the storage tank.

    With this system you will no longer have problems related to the absence of rainwater in the tank. Furthermore, with the pump installed inside the tank, annoying noises, unsightly boxes near the collection tank, etc… are avoided.

    Submersible electric pump (included in the supply)

    Material: Outer jacket, motor cover, seal holder disc, filter and closing ring in AISI 304; Impeller, diffuser and spacer in PPE+PS reinforced with glass fibres; Shaft in AISI 431; Upper mechanical seal (motor side) in Carbon/Ceramic/NBR and lower (pump side) in SiC/Carbon/NBR.

    Function: Movement of clear water from wells, cisterns and primary collection tanks; Pressurization of domestic systems; Small irrigation; Vehicle washing; Increases in pressure in general.

    Use and maintenance: in normal use conditions the electric pump does not require any maintenance operations. It is advisable to periodically check the current absorption and pressure supplied by the pump. Current absorption higher than the nominal value can be caused by anomalous mechanical friction in the motor or pump; a decrease in pressure may be due to wear of the pump hydraulics

    Control unit (included in the supply)

    Leaf filtration systems (NOT included in the supply – optional)

    These are fine mesh filtration systems that are installed on the rainwater arrival pipe to stop any solid bodies that could accumulate in the storage tanks, e.g. pebbles, leaves, twigs, etc. They can be complete sumps to be installed upstream of the tank or simple filters to be installed inside the tank itself.

    Standard leaf filter well

    To be installed upstream of the storage tank. It is characterized by the presence of an inlet and an outlet pipe, both in PVC.

    These are positioned on two different levels so that the water passes through a PP filter basket with fine mesh. The basket is easily removable for cleaning operations.

    Compact leaf filter trap

    To be installed upstream of the storage tank. It is characterized by the presence of an inlet, an outlet and a by-pass pipe, all in PVC. The water enters from the inlet pipe, passes through a fine mesh filter and is conveyed to the storage tank through the outlet pipe. The impurities that accumulate in the filter are gradually washed out by the incoming water itself and discharged through a by-pass pipe. The filter therefore has the characteristic of self-cleaning as well as having a low difference in height between the inlet and outlet pipes.

    Compact leaf filter

    It is a compact filter that guarantees a filtering action of the coarser materials present in the collected rainwater (pebbles, leaves, debris, etc.). It is to be installed on the incoming pipe inside a rainwater storage tank or a well; solves the problem of carrying out filtering with little or no slope space available. The presence of an overflow means that the filter cleans itself automatically with the flow of incoming water.

    Use and maintenance

    For the correct functioning of the rainwater recovery tank, the choice of the pump suitable for the application is essential during the design phase. For this reason, it is essential to evaluate some technical parameters such as the head and flow rate of the pump but also the indication of the final use of the accumulated water (irrigation, filling toilet cisterns, etc.).

    Under normal conditions of use the electric pump does not require any maintenance operations. However, we recommend at least two annual inspections during which the ingress of the liquid is checked and any residues are cleaned if necessary, and the condition of the electrical cable, pipes, fittings and fastening devices is checked.

    When rainwater accumulates, it is recommended to install a leaf filter well upstream of the tank, to avoid the accumulation of gravel, sand, leaves, etc. inside the tank.

    Warnings:

    • when installing the tanks, pay maximum attention so that no light filters in to avoid the formation of algae;
    • check that the inlet and outlet pipes have a sufficient slope (approximately 1% – 2%);
    • connect the vent pipe of the electric pump (see burial method in paragraph 2.4);
    • keep the area surrounding the tank free of material that could hinder or prevent maintenance work;
    • carry out any inspection and cleaning operations of the tank at least in pairs wearing suitable safety devices (harnesses, braces, gloves, etc.);
    • when carrying out maintenance and cleaning operations on underground tanks and any components installed inside them, the provisions indicated by the Legislative Decree 81/2008 (Consolidated Work Safety Act) for temporary or mobile construction sites, must always be respected.

    Electric pump warnings:

    Any maintenance work must be carried out with the pump power supply disconnected. The pump must be disconnected by qualified personnel, so that it cannot be accidentally reinstated. The maintenance warnings shown are not intended for “do-it-yourself” repairs, as they require specific technical knowledge. A service contract with a specialized technician will ensure the best technical assistance in all circumstances.

    RISK OF ELECTRIC DISCHARGE:

    • do not carry or support the electric pump by the power cable but by its handle;
    • before connecting the electric pump, make sure that the power supply has an earthing system;
    • before carrying out any checks or maintenance, cut off the power supply;
    • have the electric pump repaired and checked only by authorized personnel. Unauthorized repairs could make the product unsafe and/or dangerous.

    SERIOUS RISK TO PEOPLE AND/OR THINGS:

    • if the electric pump is not fixed correctly, upon starting it can become unbalanced and lose balance due to the reaction torque on starting;
    • absolutely avoid moving the electric pump when it is running or with the power cable connected to the electrical system;
    • absolutely never use the electric pump to pump dangerous liquids (toxic, flammable, etc.)
    • do not put your hands or other objects in the inlet or outlet openings of the pumped liquid near the impeller, if present, as this is a moving part;

    POSSIBILITY OF DAMAGE TO THE PUMP OR SYSTEM:

    • the electric pump can only work in a vertical position;
    • start the electric pump only after installation is complete; do not start it dry;
    • do not remove the suction filter, if present, for any reason;
    • the first shut-off valve of the system served by the pump must be installed at least 2.5 meters from the delivery port of the pump;
    • the water column (water system to be pressurised) above the installed pump must never exceed 10m in height
    • For the correct functioning of the electric pump and to minimize the effects of water hammer due to continuous connections/disconnections, it is important to install an adequate expansion tank.

    LANDING METHODS OF CAMILLO TANKS

    WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS

     The installation methods are valid for all underground tanks:

    Prohibitions:

    1. It is absolutely forbidden to use the underground tank for external use.
    2. It is strictly prohibited to use the tank to store waste and industrial liquids containing chemical substances or mixtures incompatible with polyethylene (see compatibility table provided by Di Camillo Serbatoi).
    3. The underground tank is NOT compliant and cannot be used for the containment of diesel fuel.

    Warnings:

    1. During the carrying out of all operations, Legislative Decree 81/2008 and subsequent amendments on the safety of temporary and mobile construction sites must be respected.
    2. Check the material very carefully upon delivery to check whether it corresponds to the order placed and the project data. It is also important to immediately report any defects found and/or damage due to transport. Contact the company directly by telephone, fax or e-mail.
    3. Check that the product is accompanied by all the standard documentation (technical data sheets, burial methods, etc.). If it is missing, please inform the company and we will send you a copy immediately.
    4. Make sure that gaskets, pipes and all parts other than polyethylene are suitable for the liquid contained.
    5. Avoid impacts and contact with sharp or angular bodies which could compromise the integrity of the product.
    6. Handle the tanks only if completely empty using the appropriate lifting eyebolts (where provided); NEVER lift the tub by the inlet and/or outlet pipes.
    7. For the choice of backing material and compaction methods, refer to the European standards UNI-ENV 1046 and UNI-EN 1610.
    8. During installation work, delimit the affected area with adequate signs.

    Handling:

    1. To move the material, use lifting and transport means of adequate capacity and compliant with current safety standards.
    2. During transport, avoid sudden movements that could compromise the integrity of the tank.
    3. Lift the tank only if it is completely empty. NEVER stand under the lifted load.
    4. For lifting, use special ropes or bands that are adequately resistant to the load to be supported and in excellent condition. Place the ropes or bands in the lifting eyelets on the tanks. To avoid unbalancing the load, always position them symmetrically respecting the shooting angle which must NOT be less than 45° (figure alongside)

    INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

    N.B. The best location of the storage tank is specified by the designer in charge based on his own in-depth technical assessments. These burial methods are guidelines to follow during installation.

    1.    THE EXCAVATION

    1.1 Prepare an excavation of suitable dimensions with a flat bottom, so that there is a space of 20/30 cm around the tank. In the presence of heavy soils (e.g. clayey substrate and/or shallow water table) the distance must be at least 50cm. Spread a bed of 20/30 mm washed gravel by 15/20 cm on the bottom of the excavation so that the tank rests on a uniform and level base. It is absolutely forbidden to use the excavated material as support. The excavation must be carried out at least 1 m away from any buildings.

    2.  BACKING and FILLING

    2.1 Place the totally empty tank on the bed of 20/30 mm washed gravel distributed on the bottom of the excavation, progressively fill the tank with water and at the same time back up with 20/30 mm washed gravel: proceed with successive layers of 15/20cm continuing to fill first the tank and subsequently backfilling with gravel. Fill the tank up to 3/4 of its capacity and cover the last 40cm with vegetable soil (NOT clayey/silty in nature, NOT excavated material). NEVER use material with sharp edges to avoid strong pressure on the tank.

    N.B. For installation in more demanding contexts (water table, clayey soil or slope), continue to chapter 3 “Exceptional installations”.

    2.2 After having adequately filled and lined the tank, gradually cover it with vegetal soil (NOT clayey/silty in nature, NOT excavated material) or with lightened material e.g. expanded clay for 30/40 cm, leaving the inspection caps free. In this way the affected area is walkable and the transit of vehicles up to 2m away from the excavation is prohibited.

    If installing purification systems, leave the tank full of water. However, in the case of water storage, leave it full until the soil settles completely (min. 7 days, period variable based on the designer’s assessment). N.B. To make the site accessible to vehicles, read the chapter 4 “Driveability”.

    2.3 INSTALLATION OF EXTENSION

    If you need to bury the tank at a depth of 30/40 cm, always maintaining the site’s walkability, it is recommended to install the Di Camillo Serbatoi PE extension directly on the inspection holes. If you have to place the product above the height indicated previously and therefore install more than one extension, a very burdensome and not recommended condition, you must faithfully follow the instructions specified in the chapter 4 “Driveability”. Depending on the installation depth, the technician in charge will follow the instructions in the two paragraphs.

    2.4 VENT CONNECTION

    1. In the case of installation of both an external and internal pump, ALWAYS provide an open, free and adequately sized to prevent the tank from going into depression and deforming during operation. After connecting the vent, make the connections and test the connections.
    2. To avoid the formation of bad odors and to make the purification system work at its best, ALWAYS connect a pipe (PVC or PE) to the provision for venting the biogas present on the product. Bring the pipe to the highest point of the building or along the drainpipes, in any case at a higher level than the height of the cover. The vent pipe indicated in the drawing is not included in the supply.

    2.5 CONSTRUCTION OF WELLS

    The installation of manholes or manhole covers weighing more than 50 kg must be carried out integrally with the concrete slab, adequately sized for the load to be supported, created to allow uniform distribution of the load. The slab, therefore, must NOT be built directly on the tank but must rest on undisturbed load-bearing soil. DO NOT build masonry parts that jeopardize maintenance or possible replacement of the tank.

    3.  EXCEPTIONAL INSTALLATIONS

    3.1 INSTALLATION IN AREAS WITH SHALLOW WATER

    Burying in the presence of a superficial aquifer is highly discouraged and is the most risky condition; a geotechnical report drawn up by a specialized professional is recommended. In relation to the results, the technician defines the thrust level of the aquifer and dimensions the abutment and the slab; in particular the supports will have the necessary load-bearing capacity to resist strong lateral thrusts. This resistance can be increased by inserting electro-welded meshes. Create the concrete slab at the bottom of the excavation and spread a 10 cm bed of washed gravel 20/30 mm to fill the corrugations at the base of the tank. Filling and backfilling must be carried out gradually: it is therefore advisable to fill the tank halfway, backfilling it with concrete at the same time and letting it rest for 24/36 hours [points 1-2]. Then finish the filling and the abutment [points 3-4].

    3.2INSTALLATION IN AREAS WITH CLAYY/SILT SOIL

    Landfilling in areas with a predominantly clayey/silty substrate and/or with reduced drainage capacity represents another burdensome condition. A geotechnical report drawn up by a specialized professional is always recommended. Depending on the results, the technician defines the level of soil pressure (in this case high) and dimensions the abutment. In particular, it is necessary to cover the bottom of the excavation with a bed of 20/30 mm washed gravel and back up the tank with 20/30 mm gravel to facilitate drainage. For filling and abutment, read par. 2.1. Provide a drainage system at the bottom of the excavation.

    3.3 INSTALLATION NEAR A SLOPE

    If the burial takes place near a slope or in places with a slope, the tank must be bordered with reinforced concrete walls, appropriately sized by a specialized technician, so as to balance the lateral thrusts of the ground and to protect the area from possible infiltrations. For filling and abutment, read par. 2.1.

    4.  DRIVABILITY

    4.1 LIGHT DRIVE-ABILITY – Class B125-EN124/95 – Max 12.5 tons

    To make the site suitable for light vehicular transit it is necessary to create, in relation to the capacity, a suitable self-supporting slab in reinforced concrete with a perimeter greater than the excavation in order to prevent the weight of the structure from weighing on the building itself. It is recommended to create a concrete slab (e.g. 15/20 cm) also on the bottom and spread a 10 cm bed of 20/30 mm washed gravel on top to fill the spaces of the corrugations present at the base of the tank. The self-supporting reinforced concrete slab and the concrete slab must always be sized by a qualified professional. The filling of the tank and the backing must always be carried out gradually as specified in par. 2.1.

    4.2 CHEAVY DRIVE CAPACITY – Class D400-EN124/95 – Max 40 tons

    To make the site suitable for heavy vehicular transit it is necessary to create a reinforced concrete formwork cast on site and a suitable self-supporting concrete slab with a perimeter greater than the excavation in order to distribute the weight on the containment walls and not on the building. Then spread a 10 cm bed of washed gravel 20/30 mm on the bottom of the formwork to fill the spaces of the corrugations present at the base of the tank. The formwork and the slab must always be sized, in relation to the load capacity, by a specialized professional. The filling of the tank and the backing must always be carried out gradually as specified in par. 2.1.
